Legal Insights & Q&A

Key Legal Questions & Insights

Concise answers to key regulatory and transactional questions in Jordan.

Under Jordanian Labour Law No. 8 of 1996 (as amended), an employer may terminate an indefinite-term employment contract by giving one month written notice for valid statutory reasons. Dismissal without statutory justification is treated as arbitrary dismissal, entitling the employee to severance compensation (typically half a month’s wage per year of service, capped at statutory limits) plus unpaid entitlements. Dismissal for gross misconduct under Article 28 requires strict compliance with statutory notice and documentation procedures.
